The PICU receives patients from internal and external transports. Patients are closely monitored through invasive and noninvasive methods by the nursing staff. Nurses undergo an extensive orientation which is specific to the critically ill pediatric population.
Minimum requirements: BLS, current RN licensure in the state of North Carolina or temporary North Carolina licensure or meet requirements to hold RN licensure in a compact state is required upon hire; PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) and 8 hours/year of trauma education are required to be obtained in one year. Educational programs are offered to promote professional development and optimal patient care.
