Facility Name: University of Maryland Medical Center (main) Downtown Campus Total # of Facility Beds: 800+ Unit Name: Adult Emergency Department (AED)M/S issues Ground Floor Unit Specialty: Emergency Nursing/Medicine Total # of Unit Beds/Suites/Deliveries: 34 beds, 3 intake triage bays, 3 fast track, 3 vertical 3 recliners **No trauma here, there is Trauma ED We get some trauma patients, stabilize them in the AED and then transfer to the Shock Trauma Center Trauma Resuscitation Unit. N Scheduling: will post, 12 hr. shifts Shift Hours: 12 hours Rotation Schedule: 7am-7p/ 7pm to 7 am Self-Scheduling no Weekend Requirements: every other weekend – if RN needs assigned weekend off, they must switch with another RN and if RN calls out sick for any portion of the weekend, RN will make up the missed time Call Requirements: no Holiday Requirements: every other holiday rotate, must be available for 2 out of 3 major winter holidays – Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years; must be available for 2 out of 3 summer holidays – Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day Patient Population (Diagnoses): 22 years old and below goes to Adult ED. Any M/S diagnoses, many unique disease processes; transplants, double lung, high acuity can see 150 patients/ day, 60, 000 per year. We see complex medical patients like stroke, STEMI, LVAD patients, triple A, sickle cell, OMFS,ENT, sepsis, surgical patients, neurosurgical, neurology patients, behavioral patients, etc. Age Range: 22 to adult Special Equipment: (For example: IV Pumps: Type; Invasive Monitoring; Monitors: Type; ECMO; Ventilators: Type; ABG: Type) A-lines, drips, vents, BIPAP/CPAP/High flow , med/surg/telemetry boarders, comprehensive stroke center, LVAD, ECMO, TPA, Tenecteplase, moderate sedation, restraints Respiratory available 24/7 for support ? Y ? N Anesthesia available 24/7 for support ? Y ? N Who manages ventilators: RT Unit Specific Procedures and Protocols: (For example: Drips; Infusions; Phlebotomy; Starting IVs; EKGs; Transports; Weaning; Nebulizer to Inhaler; Starting IVs, performing venipuncture, Performing EKGs; Discontinuing sheaths) We often have patients waiting in the ED for a room for a long period of time, longer critical hours for ICU/IMC patients, lots of boarding admitted patients in the acute side of the AED. These patients are usually medicine, surgery, tele dx Additional Unit Specific Information: Unit certifies RNs in pulmonary hypertension; VADS, bariatrics, moderate sedation, comprehensive stroke modules can be assigned to travel nurses via UMMS U in order to comply with 5 stroke CEUs).. Unit does stabilize and ship to TRU (Trauma ED). Prefer 3 month travelers not per diem
