Job Description

General Information Beds: 15 with 2 hallway treatment spaces Minimum experience? RN: 1 year ED Experience Tech: 1 year, ER experience preferred but not required Will you accept a first-time traveler? RN – Yes Tech – Yes Patient Types: They do approx. 50-60 visits a day Infants to End of Life, CHF, NSTEMI, abdominal pain, minor trauma (MVA), ER holds. Major traumas are stabilized and life flighted out. Heavy psych population – ETOH withdrawal; IVDA Patient Ratios: RN – 1:4-5; on night shift there are times that depending on Census, there may be only 2 RNs for the night shift Tech – 2 per shift when fully staffed (one acts as HUC, the other will support the RN staff with CNA duties) Required Certifications: RN: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC Tech: BLS, EKG certification (preferred) Skills required: RN: Travelers do not necessarily need charge experience but need to be willing to be trained and act as charge as often as needed. Please decline traveler if they’re unwilling to do this. General ED skills, PIV, trauma stabilization, procedural sedation is a MUST, cardiac rhythm interpretation Tech: 50% of the time they will work as Unit Secretary and the other 50% will be as CNA performing patient care duties to assist the nursing staff: Vitals (inpatient and possibly outpatient for patients waiting in their cars), blood glucose checks, ADL’s, transporting patients, lab runs, any other task as assigned; experience with EKG’s (preferred) Support on the Unit: Tech – 2 per shift when fully staffed (one acts as HUC, other will assist with patient care) HUC, 24-7 - also does telemetry monitoring Charge nurse – may have patients, depending on staffing ED physicians Phlebotomy RT 24/7 Hospitalist 24/7 Charting System: Cerner Floating: If yes, where? Tech may float to Med Surg Orientation: (facility and unit) General hospital orientation 1-2 shifts on unit, dependent on skills/comfort level Scheduling: They have staggered shifts: RN: 7a-7p, 10a-10p, 12p-12a, 7p-7a Tech: 6:30a-7p & 6:30p-7a Weekend rotation: every other Can we approve time off? Seek manager approval Will they be on call? If so, what is that schedule? No call Holiday Expectations: every other Other notes or things you want us to check/verify?
