UHS Hospitals Medical Surgical/Telemetry Traveler Float Pool Guidelines

What to expect when joining our traveler float pool-
Staff will be asked to float between the Johnson City(33-57 Harrison St, Johnson City, NY 13790) and Binghamton hospital(10-42 Mitchell Ave, Binghamton, NY 13903) campuses.
Staff will float to other Tele and Med Surg units.
Nurse to patient ratios to expect 1:5-6
On occasion, staff will be asked to float to mid shift the other location if the location is in an urgent need
Medical surgical/telemetry (MST) assignments will be taken in one of our 12 medical/telemetry units.
Assignments are based on unit needs and are monitored throughout the day by our Staffing Office/Nursing Supervisors.
At times both UHS staff and our travel nurses will be asked to float to two different units during one shift. Full charting to be completed every 8 hours – expectation is that staff will be required to do a full documentation on each unit staff are assigned to during their 12 hour shift. We realize this is not ideal, but to provide safe staffing there will be times this is needed.
UHS does not have a holds/observation unit-
If census is high patients may be held in our emergency departments.
These patents have been admitted and are under the care of an attending physician.
To care for these patients, float pool staff go to the emergency department and treat these patients as if they are on an inpatient unit.
Staff are NOT taking care of emergency room patients, inpatient holds only.
Staff Support-
All travel staff will report to the Nurse Manager of the Clinical Resource Office (CRO).
Schedules are published in four-week increments (block scheduling will be limited based on hospital needs).
Schedules are available to view in Shift Wizard, the scheduling tool UHS uses. It is available on all the desktops and there is an app you may choose to download.
Daily assignments come from the CRO. You will receive a text with your daily assignment, typically 1 hour before the scheduled shift.

Stepdown ratios are 1:4

What to expect when joining our traveler float pool-
Staff will be asked to float between the Johnson City(33-57 Harrison St, Johnson City, NY 13790) and Binghamton hospital(10-42 Mitchell Ave, Binghamton, NY 13903) campuses.
Staff will float to other Tele and Med Surg units.
Nurse to patient ratios to expect 1:5-6
On occasion, staff will be asked to float to mid shift the other location if the location is in an urgent need
Medical surgical/telemetry (MST) assignments will be taken in one of our 12 medical/telemetry units.
Assignments are based on unit needs and are monitored throughout the day by our Staffing Office/Nursing Supervisors.
At times both UHS staff and our travel nurses will be asked to float to two different units during one shift. Full charting to be completed every 8 hours – expectation is that staff will be required to do a full documentation on each unit staff are assigned to during their 12 hour shift. We realize this is not ideal, but to provide safe staffing there will be times this is needed.

Bariatric surgery program - Onsight at Sunnybrook clinic
Pediatric experience preferred - as there will be some cross-coverage for the peds general surgeon. The majority of the contract will be message management (triaging patient messages and calls) pre and post-op phone calls and teachings, some office visits to do in-person teachings, suture/staple removals and wound checks.
