Position Description: Concord CVPCU (cardio thoracic surgery)
Unit Specialty: Patients are admitted to CVPCU for assessment, monitoring and care of pre and postoperative CABG, Valve replacement and/or repair, and thoracic and vascular surgeries/procedures. Additional associated diagnose may include but are not limited to cardiac dysthymias, unstable angina, myocardial infarction and post cardiac interventions and procedures. General med/surg patients may also be placed on CVPCU when bed space allows. Major treatment modalities include cardiac telemetry, single vasoactive infusions requiring minimal titration, antiarrhythmic drug administration, IV antiplatelet agents, temporary trans venous pacing when the patient has an underlying rhythm, tight blood glucose control managed with insulin infusions, chest tube management and pulse ox monitoring. • 244 beds in hosp, 17 beds in unit • Ratios : 1:3 or 1:4 , ratios are CA state mandated, will depend on patient acuity and census • Float requirements : will float as needed under same scope of skill • Schedule/ Weekend requirements : typically every other weekend • EMR – note if required/ preferred : epic is EMR not required but preferred • Scrub Info : any color no jeans, detailed info will be provided with first day info Required upon submission: • MUST HAVE CURRENT CA LIC AT TIME OF SUBMISSION

LDRP – meaning the patient will stay on this unit for Antepartum, Intrapartum and Postpartum/Couplet care. Traveler must be comfortable with all phases as well as care of well babies – confirm in offer they are comfortable with this
Post-partum hemorrhage, pre-eclampsia, HELLP, bilirubin babies, NAS babies, feeders/growers
They also get MSU surgical patient overflows. Low acuity patients there for IV Antibiotics, swing bed or rehab. No infectious patients, no telemetry monitoring – confirm in offer they are comfortable with this – average ratio with Med/Surg patients would be 1:2-3 patients
They have a low volume of deliveries, averaging 200/year.
Rooming in model – there is no dedicated Nursery/Nursery RN – RN will care for babies as well

Shoulder dystocia, Epidural management, nitrous as requested, intrathecal spinal analgesia, will go into C-sections only to catch babies and provide neonatal care – will not be required to circulate C-sections at this time,
Care of the newborn to include: VS, thermoregulation, hypoglycemia, bilirubin babies, NAS babies

Unit is staffed with at least 2 nurses overnight, 3 nurses at times.

Identifies outcomes for the patient or the patients situation.Collaborates with the team of patient family and healthcare providers in providing patient care in a safe healing humane and caring environment. Provides learning opportunities for patients/family members and team members. Directly provides health information to patients families and treatment team.Participates in discharge planning in order to provide continuity of care.Delegates appropriately and coordinates duties of healthcare team members.Performs other job-related duties as assigned.Organizational Requirements: Committed to the safety and wellbeing of our associates and patients.
