Job Description

If Concord gets busy the traveler may be asked to float occasionally to Concord. The two campuses are 8 miles apart. Unit : ER RN John Muir Walnut Creek – 554 beds ED : 44 beds Not a teaching hospital Level II Trauma ER **candidates MUST have prior travel experience Years of experience required : 2 yrs in ER Years of experience preferred : 3+ yrs Certs required : BLS ACLS PALS NIHSS CA Lic Certs preferred : CEN TNCC Nurse Patient Ratio 1:4 Covid Info : exemptions allowed Flu Info : declination allowed Shift Details : will work every shift listed here as needed by hospital : 1p-1a/3p-3a/5p-5a/7p-7a 36hrs per week; not self scheduling will be scheduled by manager, weekends typically every other, no call requirements Must be available 2 out of the 3 major winter holidays and 2 out of the 3 summer holidays. (winter is Thanksgiving, Christmas and NY, summer is Memorial, 4th of July and Labor Day) Patient Population (Diagnoses): Annual visits are approximately 62000+ with an average daily census of 190-200 patients. Our ED represents a culturally diverse population with a range of high acuity physical and mental health conditions. Hospital is located in very affluent area with patients who have very high expectations. Our hospital is designated Magnet facility. We are Trauma Level ll, Comprehensive Stroke and STEMI. We have evidence based best practice models in place to expedite the care for these patients as well as septic patients. Prefer experience with CVP, SVO2 and arterial lines. Age Range: Adults and Peds. Significant elderly population Patient Care Modality: Primary and Team Nursing, however must be able to manage high acuity patients independently. Primary nursing but with a team approach, very little down time. We have an all RN staff responsible to care for the patient who is assisted by ED techs, who are non-licensed assistive personnel. They are very well informed about what they can and can’t do. If there are any questions that come about, please ask them before you delegate to them. RNs start their own IVs and commonly draws labs at the same time. A Phlebotomist is available when needed especially for drawing cultures. RNs do NOT draw ABGs. EKGs- can be done by ED techs and/or RN. Do not delay an EKG because you have delegated this task to the ED tech. Once the EKG is done, please place it in the hands of a physician. Special Equipment:Art-lines in trauma, Hospira infusion pumps, pediatric syringe pumps Travelers are not assigned to triage in the waiting area unless they have been on assignment with us an extended amount of time and have gone through triage orientation. Travelers do triage ambulance patients at the bedside. Our Front-end process/PIT is covered by a PA or NP and M. Patient experience and nursing excellence is a MAJOR focus. ED average daily volume is 190-200 patients, discharged patient turnover is very fast, can hold inpatient admissions at times # Days of Orientation: 2 ED shifts (24 hours total), 1 shift with Educator (4-6 hours) Advanced Practice on the unit : Physician Assistants ER Techs on the unit (days 2-3 ER Techs, Eves 4-5 ER Techs, Nights 2 ER Techs) Respiratory and Anesthesia available 24/7 (RT manage vents) Float requirements : n/a Schedule/Weekend requirements : typically every other weekend rotation EMR – note if required/ preferred : EPIC, preferred Medication System Pyxis Scrub Info : any color scrubs, will get detailed info with first day info Testing during orientation (pass/fail): n/a Is there a radius rule: yes 50 miles, will take locals but for different bill rate Will they take past perm staff as travel : yes if eligible Payroll process : kronos IVS process : IVS Review – Manager Offers Required Upon Submission: MUST have current CA lic at time of submission Must have 2 yrs exp in relevant specialty No work hx with gaps over 30 days w/o explanation Must have Facility Type, EMR, and Bed Count filled out 1 Reference- dated no more than 12 months old Skills Checklist – dated no more than 12 months old All RTO must be in packet at time of submission.
