Questions about Travel Nursing?

Do you have questions about travel nursing? Here is some insight into questions you may have about a career in travel nursing. Maybe we can answer a few of these common questions for you.

Do I get reimbursed for travel expenses? This will all be worked out with your recruiter before a commitment is made. Normally there is an amount reimbursed for travel expenses one time only. But this can vary, depending on assignment and agency, and should be on your list to be discussed with your recruiter.

Can I take family or friends along on a travel assignment? On most assignments you can take whoever you want with you, even a pet. If you know a friend who is also a travel nurse, you can arrange your assignment in the same facilities and share housing and expenses. Bringing family and/or a pet, would be at your expense, but can be arranged since assignments are normally arranged well in advance.

How much experience is necessary to become a Travel Nurse? Most agencies prefer two years of experience in your specialty to be considered for a travel nurse assignment. But things can and do change as demand increases across the board for experienced nurses.

How long are travel assignments? Travel assignments usually last 13 weeks. If things are working out well and the facility is happy with you, your assignment could be extended. There are some assignments that are for shorter periods as well. The time frame is established and contracted with you before the assignment starts and your travel recruiter can always help you with all the details.

Where are travel nurse jobs available? Depending on your specialty, there are jobs available in most every state across the country. You can choose a particular destination. Is there some area of the US on your bucket list that you would like to explore a little more than a normal vacation would allow? Or how about being close to some family that is not close geographically? The possibilities are wide open and in most cases, there are more jobs than there are experienced and qualified nurses to fill them. That's one of the reasons the travel nurse industry continues to grow.
