Our OBs ship the majority of obstetric pts under 35 weeks. If we do happen to have one less than that we do stabilize and transfer. I usually staff with one RN and an LPN or CNA. We usually have census of 6-8 with an occasional surge to 10 and we have had occasional drops with rare drops to zero for 12 -24 hrs. The RN is responsible for the charting. We are trying to increase our rooming in but we do have alot of moms who want the babies to stay in the room. The LPN/CNA does the majority of the feedings and the checking/rounding on the well babies that are out with the mom’s. The RN does attend C/S’s but not the vaginal deliveries.
