Beds: Mixed acuity unit – 6 ICU level; 3 Med Surg level
Minimum experience? 2 years; 1 year of ICU experience needed
Will you accept a first-time traveler? Yes
Patient Types:
Vents, Sepsis, PNA, DKA, Detox
Surgical complications: Total Joints (knees, hips etc), General MS, Appendicitis, colectomies, small bowel, Urology (turp, cysto),
Patient’s with addictions in addition to other medical issues
Pediatric patients that have to stay overnight after surgery (Rare)
Patient Ratios:
1:3 – acuity based
Required Certifications:
BLS, ACLS, PALS
Skills required:
Charge RN experience and willingness to act as Charge – as often as is needed. Please decline travelers without this experience/if they are unwilling to do this
Chest tubes, traches, drains, wound vacs, IVs, PCAs, Epidurals (rare), CVP, A-Line care/blood draws
Insulin gtts, cardiac gtts
Nursing Reading and Interpreting Strips for ICU and MSU
Support on the Unit:
Charge nurse: takes assignment most shifts
RT, 24/7
Hospitalist, 24/7
Centralized Tele monitoring tech
Charting System: Cerner
Floating: If yes, where?
May float to Med Surg
May float to ED to task/as helping hands
Orientation: (facility and unit)
General hospital orientation
1 shift on unit
Scheduling:
Weekend rotation: Every other; travel pairs are allowed to work the same weekend generally
