Your Mental Health

I know, I know, it’s all over the news and all everybody is talking about now. But, guess what, it is very important. We all know that if we just use our brains and think about it. Healthcare travelers and travel nurses have one of the most stressful jobs there is. And with all that is going on now, between the normal stuff and then Covid on top of it, you are even more at risk than every before.

In order to provide the best care for your patients it’s important to take care of yourself. I know this can be very hard with the heavy duty schedules everybody is subject to now. But it is essential to make the effort to take care of yourself. A few minutes of stretching and breathing can be very beneficial for your mind and body. Some days that may be all you have the time for and that’s understandable. Just remember, that even a minute of deep breathing can make a difference.

I find the best answer for me is a walk outdoors if I can get one in each day. Mornings are a great time to get outside and walk a bit, even if it’s only 10-15 minutes. It’s not so hot in the mornings and it’s a good time to move, when your body is empty and rested.

Of course, there are much more significant things to be on the lookout for in yourself to maintain your mental health and keep you at the top of your game. That is important as a healthcare worker because you are responsible for the care of other individuals.

So, take a minute, take an hour if you can. But take care of yourself. It’s all important to keep you healthy and able to provide the excellent care that your patients require. Breathe, grasshopper, breathe!
