Meditation Helps!

I know, I know, we’ve all heard it….just sit down and breathe for a few minutes. It really is that simple though. There are so many forms of meditation and with our phones always at our side, of course, there is an app for that. In fact, there are many apps for that.

Here are a few I found that could prove helpful to you the travel nurse or professional healthcare traveler. There are free apps as well as ones that cost a little bit. But let me assure you that helping yourself, with meditation or other methods, can’t be more important in your daily life, especially facing what we are facing today in the world. Most of them offer free trials so you can try them out as they can get a little pricey.

Calm – And of course you can tell by the name what this app is for. They say the app is a portal to peace of mind. The app has been downloaded more than 50 million times and is proving quite popular with a Daily Calm Meditation or you can find a meditation more specific to your needs. This app also offers sleep stories, body scans, masterclasses and even walking meditations. Might be worth a look with their 7 day free trial.

Aura – Aura may be your best choice as a beginner to meditation practice. It consists of a collection of quick, three-minute sessions as well as 30 second anxiety busters to help you in intense situations. This has helped many quickly calm nerves or panic.

One of the free ones I found is called Insight Timer. I just downloaded it myself. There are 30,000 guided meditation sessions that can help with all the chaos you face everyday. There are music tracks for relaxation and even a section for kids. I will be trying this one out later today.

Stop, Think & Breathe – This one has some free content available to help you as well as a premium for more detailed. When you open the app it asks how you feel and directs you to specific meditations that you may need at this time. Pretty cool.

Simple Habit – Teaches you how to quiet your mind in just five minutes, instead of a lengthy session. Most content on this app is dedicated to brief sessions so it might be perfect for your busy schedule.

Sattva – this one is more for serious seekers. This app checks your physical health as well and can let you track the benefits of your meditation sessions. There are guided meditations from top experts as well as trophies and progress trackers.

10% Happier – This one is an answer for those who just can’t seem to get meditation. It is a great app for starting a meditation practice. They have a 7 day free trial too. The app features expert teachers to coach you through the basics. Their concept is that with just a little help you can get it and become maybe a little bit happier.

So, as you can see, there are many, many different approaches to meditation today, thanks to our Smart Phones. Of course, you could just sit down and breathe, but maybe we all need a little prodding to help calm the fears of every day life in our “new normal”. Breathe, grasshopper, Breathe!
