Patient Care

The patients are what this industry is based on. They're what make sure you have this wonderful job as a traveling nurse. They're also what makes this job interesting. You base the stories you tell, the attitude you have, all on the patients. We all know that sometimes, the patients are the best people to be around though. Sometimes, they aren't. You happen to be in the direct line of either the worst or best of people. But it's not only the patients you have to take care of. It's their loved ones, as well.

Being a nurse, you're taking care of the husbands, the wives, the parents, the children. Which makes the job 10 times harder. When the doctor sweeps in, using big words and medical terms, you're the one they turn to when they don't understand. The step by step of the diagnostic are yours to explain. When the patient is too sick to understand what's going on, the loved ones are who need the comfort. Everyone is scared, and everyone has different ways of handling that.

The families of your patients are your patients too, now. This may be another day at work for you, but for them, it may be the end of the world. Taking care of these patients and helping families understand what's going on and the options, is an important part of the job. Do this part to the best of your ability and you will live in their memories for years to come.
